Smart Security Guards New Life: Huiya Hospital's Infant Security system Builds a Safety Line for Mothers and Infants

2024-05-31

When the first cry of a newborn rings out in the delivery room, every family is filled with joy and anticipation. This precious happiness requires the most solid security guarantee. As a large public comprehensive teaching hospital built according to the "Grade III Class A" standard, Huayia Hospital (referred to as "Huayia Hospital") of Sun Yat-sen University, in the process of building a high-level regional medical center, has always placed the safety of mothers and infants at the top priority. When the second phase project of 2025 is fully launched, the hospital introduces advanced baby security system, using technology as a pen, to draw an intangible yet solid safety barrier for newborn babies.

A Century-Old Medical Legacy: Safety is the Foundation of High-Quality Healthcare

Since its operation in 2013, Huaiya Hospital has relied on the strong technical strength of Sun Yat-sen University Affiliated First Hospital (one of the 36 national clinical key specialties in China, the top in South China) to build a medical service system covering the entire life cycle. With the completion of the second phase project, among the eight centers planned by the hospital, the Women and Children Center has become one of the key construction sections. "Not only do we need to provide top-notch diagnosis and treatment technologies for mothers and infants, but we also need to create an absolutely safe medical environment," said the director of the Women and Children Center of Huaiya Hospital.

According to authoritative media reports, in recent years, various regions across the country have witnessed incidents of newborns' safety issues in hospitals, which have served as a wake-up call for hospital safety management. Huaiya Hospital has fully recognized that newborn safety management is an important manifestation of the hospital's service capabilities and is also the core practice of the "patient-centered" concept. Therefore, during its second-phase construction, the hospital made a special investment and introduced an infant anti-theft system that complies with international standards, achieving a leapfrog upgrade from passive prevention to active warning.

Triple intelligent protection: Technology weaves the "invisible safety net"

Entering the obstetrics ward of Hu Yi Hospital, each newborn's ankle is equipped with a lightweight baby tag, which is the core component of the Onko Baby Anti-theft System. This system is based on the Onko One Network Infinity® medical-specific wireless Internet of Things platform and positioning network, adopting a "mother-infant tag + base station/micro station + management terminal" triple architecture. Through dual-frequency dual-mode (UHF + low frequency) radio frequency technology, it builds a comprehensive and unobstructed safety monitoring network.

In terms of hardware configuration, the system deploys base stations for positioning and access control equipment in the safe area of the obstetrics floor, and sets up positioning base stations and access control devices in non-safe areas and entrances and exits, forming a three-dimensional signal coverage. The baby tags worn by newborns are combined with medical-grade flexible silicone anti-pulling wristbands, which have undergone dual biological safety tests (ISO10993 and GB/T16886). They are soft, skin-friendly, and adjustable in tightness, fully meeting the safety technical requirements for baby products, while also considering material safety and structural rationality. The tags are equipped with an ultra-low power consumption module, supporting 12-month ultra-long battery life, and automatically transmitting encrypted signals to ensure real-time synchronization of location information.

The intelligent protection function of the system showcases professional craftsmanship: When a baby is taken out of the preset safe area, the nurse station terminal immediately pops up an accurate alarm message, and the access control at the entrances and exits starts with sound and light alarms, forming a "area lockdown + path tracking" dual response, effectively preventing unauthorized abduction. If someone attempts to cut or loosen the wristband without authorization, the built-in anti-pulling device in the tag will instantly trigger an alarm, combined with 7 full-scenario alarm modes such as unauthorized cutting, incorrect mother-infant matching, etc., to fully avoid safety risks. Many mothers have reported that when taking their babies for examinations or care, the nurse can quickly complete the authorization process through the system, and the system seamlessly integrates with the hospital's HIS system, automatically synchronizing information, which is both convenient, efficient, and safe, and does not affect the normal medical treatment process.

Extension of Homogenization Management: Full-process Guarantee from Technology to Services

As an important part of the multi-hospital district development of Zhongshan First Hospital, the baby theft prevention system of Huia Hospital is not isolated but deeply integrated into the hospital's "homogenization management" system. The system is seamlessly connected with the hospital's HIS system, automatically linking the names, bed numbers, etc. of the newborn mothers. This prevents the risk of mistaking the baby from the very beginning. When nurses carry out daily care, they can quickly check the mother-baby information through the mobile PDA, achieving precise matching of "person - label - bed".

This innovative management model is precisely attributed to the advanced experience brought by the experts from Zhongshan First Hospital. During the system debugging phase, the hospital invited the obstetrics and gynecology expert team from Zhongshan First Hospital to conduct multiple rounds of simulation tests, covering various possible scenarios, to ensure that the system can operate stably under all working conditions. At the same time, the hospital also set up special training programs to enable the obstetric medical staff to master the system operation proficiently, forming a dual guarantee mechanism of "technical protection + manual monitoring".

t is worth noting that this system is also linked with hospital helicopter landing pads, remote consultations and other advanced medical resources. In case of special circumstances, the system can quickly locate the position of the newborn, allowing for precious time for emergency medical treatment, fully demonstrating the construction concept of "Emergency and Critical Care Treatment Center" of Huia Hospital.

Smart Hospital New Benchmark: Safeguarding Future Growth

Since the second phase was put into use, the baby theft prevention system of Huia Hospital has protected the safety of many newborns, achieving zero safety incidents and zero false alarms. This system is not only an epitome of the hospital's intelligent construction, but also a vivid practice of Huia Hospital's goal of "Building a Modern, Intelligent, Garden-like, Integrated Medical and Teaching Public Hospital".

In the future, as the hospital's precision medicine center, regional medical imaging center and other sections are further improved, the infant security system will expand its functions. It is planned to be linked with the newborn health monitoring equipment to achieve integrated services of "safety monitoring + health management". As the president of Huia Hospital said: "We use the most advanced technology to protect the most vulnerable lives. Let every family that comes to Huia feel safe and trusted as they welcome the arrival of a new life."
